Partial Dentures vs. Full Dentures

by | Endodontist Lady Lake

The confidence that you feel when you smile can make a big difference to your quality of life. While it’s not easy to admit that something so simple could affect the ease at which we live, it’s the truth, and as our bodies age and teeth begin to fall, the quality and confidence of our smile lessen. That’s why dentures were created, to provide elderly individuals with a smile that allowed for them to continue walking through life with the confidence they’re accustomed to.

Heritage Dental provides a variety of services that help improve the appearance of your smile, and oral surgery is one of the primary ways that we are able to do that. We offer both partial and full sets of dentures for our patients to choose from. If you’re only just beginning to consider dentures as an option, we understand that there are likely curiosities between the different types and sets that you have.

The main factor that you’ll have to consider is how many of your teeth will need to be replaced. If all of your teeth need to be replaced, a full set of dentures is your best option. If you still have a few healthy teeth remaining, it’s best to utilize the healthy and natural teeth rather than dentures, so we usually recommend a partial set of dentures to provide replacement for the teeth that need it.

Aside from the amount of teeth that the sets of dentures have, the way that you maintain and wear them will differ as well. Partial dentures have metal clasps that wrap around your healthy teeth to hold the dentures into place, while full sets of dentures are usually held on by a type of adhesive or are implanted. It’s important that both a full or partial set of dentures are deeply cleaned to maintain good oral health. Both should be cleaned and soaked throughout the night if they’re not fully implanted.
